I recently saw the highly controversial Von Trier film “Antichrist” and I must say that he consistently succeeds as a provocateur. The film follows the downward spiral of a couple, specifically the wife, known solely as SHE, after the death of their child. The film is beautifully acted by the amazing Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe and is cinematically more complex and beautiful than Von Trier’s usual Dogme 95 style of filmmaking. The film is extremely graphic at times, haunting, and laden with religious and occult-like symbolism. Though the film can be a bit difficult to decipher, as it is broken into three chapters and the story seems a bit incomplete, it is definitely worth viewing if only to witness beautiful acting and the polarizing effect that his films have on audiences.
