MGMT has released the cover art for their highly anticipated new album “Congratulations” which is released April 13th. Interestingly enough, the artist Anthony Ausgang is credited as the pioneer of “Lowbrow” art: an underground visual art movement that arose in the Los Angeles, California, area in the late 1970s. Its origins are in the underground comix world, punk music, hot-rod street culture, and other subcultures. There is usually a sense of humor or sarcasm accompanied with this art style as it seems to not take itself as seriously as “classical” forms of art. Anyway, this is only adding coolness to a band whose coolness factor is already through the roof.
